The 2nd practice of Tipp Hill and other runnings!!

This week has been a little sparse on running. I have ran for 4 days, but the mileage was not there.

I try to run at least 3 miles on Thursday, but was nagged off the treadmill. It seems sometimes that I have 3 children under the age of 10, the way that Ron acts.

I was at mile 1 and Brian wanted to be on the computer. Andy was still upstairs and I was trying to coach him from the treadmill (I have my treadmill right in front of my computer so I can listen to my downloads in a different order to see if I "run" better than what I have on my MP3 player). Ron comes down and starts copying me (OK that got me pissed).

I then asked him to help Brian. It was simple, my 5 year old son was able to downsize what I had on the computer, launch Road Runner, and find the Playhouse Disney site on Favorites (with my coaching). That is really good for someone who is in Pre-school. All my husband had to do was find the game that my son wanted to play. Now that was an ordeal. I told them what to do, still on the treadmill running at 5.2, around mile 1.25. I was told "I know what I'm doing"!!! Famous last words!!! He had Brian on the Disney site for 13 year olds!!!!! Ron was clicking here and clicking there, getting lost in the process. Brian is getting upset, because he knows that it is not that hard to find his game. I'm getting upset, because my husband is supposed to be intelligent, tells me he "knows" how to use a computer, and is not listening to me when I get the kids to the site while running on the treadmill all the time.

Now I'm frustrated, so I hop off the treadmill. Brian give me the sad eye "help" look and I tell Ron to move over. I was then told that I did not know what I was doing. I said OK and left the "boys" as I stomp up the stairs.

He knows that I'm trying to get some mileage under my belt. He also knows that car racing is coming and I'm making a huge sacrifice the night before the Tipp Hill race. It is his birthday the day of the race, so we are going to the Motorsports show the night before to see the race car. (Not that he has been working on it at least once a week) See all of "our" friends from racing and talk half the night, while the kids are getting bored, making trouble, I have to keep an eye on them, Ron gets upset because the kids are not behaving, etc. You get the picture, for me a night of heXX, and right before a race. To top it all off, what does Ron what for a birthday meal? Chicken wings, from Hooters no less!!! God save me!!

So any mileage that I got this week was running Tipp Hill with Trace, Cosmo and Kris. This was Kris's first time on Tipp Hill and she did great. Of course, Trace keeps me motivated. I don't know what I would do without her!!!

We started the course like we would on race day, taking the long way around Burnet Park, then heading down the hill. Burnet Park was a little slippery so we took it slow. That is OK for us runners who don't care about the time, I just hope they have it cleared by the 10Th for the other runners (OK for me, so I don't fall down and look like a dork).

We head down Burnet Park road, and take the up and down of the "smaller" hills pretty good. I just can't help using my 1-2-3-4 on the hills. But I'm loud. I have to do something about it so I don't scare the other runners that don't know me.

I was doing good until I said, we have made the 1/2 way mark (near St. Patrick's Church, close to 1/2 I think). As soon as I said that, I got so tired. I'm thinking, why did I say that, I still have 2 miles to go. Now my body is tregging up the hills. I don't stop, but I'm going slow. We finally get to the last hill. Out come the 1-2-3-4, so loud, that I think that I sound like a drill Sargent. But I made it up the hill. I was not going to stop, I think that I was at a point that I would have crawled up the hill. I think to myself "I made it", to bad I could not get any air in my lungs!!! I swear, I'm huffing and puffing like a train!!! We walked the last 1/2 mile....I feel so good about this race now (other than the chicken wings). I know that I can do it!!!

Oh, by the way I have gotten back with Ron. Ron would like to see me with long flowing red hair, like some Scottish Maiden (My maiden name was Grant). But I like my hair short and I got it cut like I had when I was pregnant for the boys. See, now my father would say that the Polish has come out in me!!! I said to that "Well Dad, he does not have to take care of it" And I got most of my red hair from the Poles!!!

Practice Makes Perfect

If you read Trace's Blog, you know that we ran 3.6 miles yesterday (to be exact) Hey, I'm counting every mile......With four hills.....In the freezing cold. It was so cold that my sweat frozen in my hair.....But I did not mind a bit. It was a lot better than running inside. I got to practice my hills!!!

I know that I can do the 4 miles (slow but sure), it is the hills I want to practice on. The first time up the hill, was a bear. I think it was cold and I was not warmed up yet, but the 1-2-3-4 came out and I made it up. It was Tracy that kept me going.....I think that we feed off of each other...I know that there is someone there next to me. It is so much better to run with someone, and the only reason that I talk the whole time is because I did not want to think about anything!!! That is how I get through things...TALK, TALK, TALK.

Trace, Cosmo, and I ran two more times around, then Sherrie showed up!!! New blood to help us along!!! We ran one more time around with her, but then I had to stop. My quads were hurting!!! But nothing to be worried about!!

This morning was another story.....I hurt. I even stretched in the fitness room after running and I was still stiff this morning. Nothing too bad that a couple of Aspirin would not fix.

I ran one mile on the treadmill today. I did practice my speed. I went from 5.0 to 5.5 in the mile. That limbered up my quads. I should be find tomorrow!!

We Ran Tipp Hill.......

This week was a little slow on doing things.....more lake effect!!! Now, it is par for the course! Other than Monday, I only ran 2.5 miles on Thursday. I was trying to working on my speed work. Going slow in the beginning, then increasing the speed towards the end. I did get up to 5.5 mph on the last .25 miles. I'm hoping this will work for me so I don't die on race day.

Saturday brought SUNSHINE!!!!! So after Brian's turmoil of a soccer game (He did not get to play goalie and through a fit in the gym) I met Trace, Cos, Bridget, Jen and Cliff at the start of the course for the Tip Hill Run. It was great to met Jen and Cliff in person!!!! So around 1:30, off we go. It was sort of hard to run, because the streets are not plowed like the should. But going up and down the hills were OK. I did not feel any strain, pressure, anxiety, about running. Then came the last big hill in the course.

Like I said before, the street was not plowed like it should have been (shoot my street had less snow on it, and "we" keep some snow on the street so the snowmobiles can go up and down the road) I was keeping a good pace on the big hill with my 1-2-3-4 and then we had to stop for cars 1/2 way up. There was no way that we could have fit with the cars on the road. And as considerate runners, we stopped for them to pass. Once all the cars were up, we started running again. That was my demise. I could not get the rhythm again!!! I could not get the 1-2-3-4 to work for me. About 100 yards (maybe less) from the top, I had to stop and walk. I was defeated by the hill. But I did not let that get me down!!!

We did run the last loop of Burnet Park to see how that felt, I ran it slow and took it easy. And I have come to the conclusion, that this race is doable. After talking to Trace and Bridget about how the race is set up and after a night of thinking about it.....I'm looking forward to running this. During the race, I'm not going to have to stop for cars....Right? I will have my friends and Teresa with me!!! I'm all set. I am going to run the course again next week.....It does not hurt to be prepared!!!

I finally got to run outside!!

Yesterday, Trac, Cosmo and I ran about 2.7 miles, while doing "the hills", across from the Y. It felt great not to have to run on the treadmill. I really felt good doing it.

I do have to say that the third hill was hard!!! I got to a point where I just kept saying to myself "1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4", just to make sure that I was giving equal effort. I did the same on the fourth hill, but it did not seem as bad......I guess I knew that we were almost over and once I got over that hill, it was smooth sailing.

It does help when I have someone to run with. Even if they are not talking to me, I can see them. I guess my brain thinks that if they are there I can rely on them. It also helps me when someone is talking (or watching the kids on the computer) when I run on the treadmill. I'm doing something different....looking at scenery, what the kids are playing, etc. For some reason, I can not watch TV when I'm running. I guess that is the ADD in me. I have to look around, have more action.

After running, I went to swimming. I tried to work on my endurance!!! I got to where I can go up and down 3 times before I have to stop and catch my breath. But remember, I am doing this right after I have run almost three miles. So, I'm thinking I doing good!?! But I still have to work to be able to swim 1/2 mile without treading water every other minute!!!

I'm trying to run with Trac the Tipp Hill course sometime this weekend!!! I hope that we are able to run outside again!!! With the Noreastern coming and going to dump about 36" of snow and 30mph winds, I don't know if Spring is ever going to come!! But at least all of the running group will have the same snow as I do.

AND THERE IS MORE SNOW!!!

It is STILL snowing!!! Well actually this morning it was sunny!!! We were able to go down to the Y for swimming (Andy), running (Me), and soccer (Brian). Ron came too. So we did our usual Saturday stuff. Ron took the boys and I went grocery shopping. We then came home and started to shovel what we could....OK the boys played, but we got things done. But now the snow is here. They are predicting another 1-2 feet tonight. When is it going to end!!!

The boys on Wednesday....After we were able to get out.

The snow is almost as tall as Brian!!

Our full size truck after the snow storm

The snow on our back deck this morning

My house this morning

Andy's snow measure that only goes up to three feet

This is what it is doing right now!!!

Well, I only ran 2.5 miles today. But I ran it on the Hill function on level three. I only did 5.0 mph but had an incline of 2.9!!! I think that is good. I don't know how I'm going to feel tomorrow!! I did shovel for two hours!!!

And Part 3!!!

Well after almost 6 feet of snow (and still coming), we have made the national news. NBC came to Mexico and Parish to tape a segment for the Today Show and the Nightly News. Ron and I just looked at each other. It is not like we have never gotten this much snow before. Our first year in Parish/Palermo/Mexico (It sometimes stinks living in between three towns) we had so much snow at one time that when Ron shoveled off the roof it covered our front windows....We could not see outside of them for almost a month!!! I think this is so special because it really has never stopped snowing and this is really our first snow fall. For a place that normally gets snow during Halloween, having our first major snow fall at the end of January beginning of February is not, well, normal. I took pictures yesterday, but I have my camera on charge.....because I want to take more pictures tomorrow to put on the next time that I write to show the comparison.

So that still leaves me to running on the treadmill, by the time all this snow clears and it gets a little bit warmer, it will be May!!

Today I ran 3.25 miles and walked .25 miles. The first .75 mile was at 5.0 mph. The next 1.5 miles were at 5.1 mph. The last was done between 5.2 mph and 5.4 mph. Again it was a steady run.....no real problems. I do think I strained a muscle on the side of my quad, but when I run it does not hurt. It only hurts when I in the process of sitting down or standing up. I probably slipped walking some where and I pulled it. But since it really does not hurt, I'm going to keep on running.

It looks like I'm not going to be able to run Tip Hill practice run on Saturday or Sunday with the group!!! I am going to take Andy and Brian to the Y for swimming and soccer. I still get to run on the treadmill between swimming and soccer practice. While I'm doing that Ron is going to try to dig us out, cut down the banks, etc. Then on Sunday, if we can't hire somebody, he wants to get on the roof to shovel the snow off. I want somebody around when he does that......I really hope that we can find somebody or have someone help him!!

I Hate Snow.......Part 2

Well another day in the snow belt!!! Since I wrote in Sunday we have gotten 3 feet of new snow!!! Not inches.....Feet!!! It has been sooooo bad here that Parish/Palermo was on the Weather Channel. Ron and I did not go into work at all today. The snow plow did not go by our house until after 1PM (that was for the first time since Monday morning, so there was at least 2 feet of snow in the road) and Ron had snowplowed our driveway three time today!!! That is not counting the two times that he did it last night. Oswego County and the town of Mexico have a travel advisory. Route 81 is closed again. School was closed Monday and Tuesday. Welcome to New York's snow belt.

This is all fine and good, but not 10 to 15 miles down the road....Nothing!! Work got nothing!!! Trac, Bridget, Sherrie, Sherry, the rest of the running group, and the Y got nothing!!! Don't get me wrong, it was cold.....really cold but at least they could leave the house.

So that brings me to what I did today. I ran 4 miles on my treadmill. Going mainly around 5.0 mph for the first 2 miles. I then up it to 5.1 for 1 mile. Got up to 5.2 for the start of the last mile. I then went up to 5.5 for the last 10th of a mile. You know I felt good.....I felt really good. I just felt so cooped up that I thought I would go bonkers. And the run made my day. I just don't know how to explain it. It made me sane.

I hate snow!!!!

OK that was a little harsh. But we have a good 2 feet in the yard with more coming. It is also below zero. I can't run outside.....They boys can't play in the snow. It sucks!!! I'm just glad that I'm not 1/2 hour north of here. They have gotten 2 feet of snow in the last two days. That is on top of the 2 feet that they got before!!! They have shut down the major highway between Syracuse and Canada!!! Hello Winter.

I hope that Jen and Trac did well in their race today. I was planning on going, but I had both boys and it was just too cold for them to stand outside (sorry Trac and Jen). I know that they done great no matter what happened.

I have updated my blogger account and I don't know if I like it.....I'm not really blogger savvy like Jen, Trac, and Bridget. Shoot, I can't figure out how to put a picture of the boys on, so it shows up all the time!!!! I don't know if it is my computer, but it is really slow for me to log on. Then I get frustrated and I don't write in my blog. Also, all the blogs that were written in the old version now don't list who replied to them.....Just anonymous. I just notice two new posting regarding my play list and I don't know who they are from. It also does not help that anytime I try to write something there are two voice yelling "MA!!!!!!!!!! CAN I..." The joys of motherhood.

So for the last two weeks I have been running, but they have been on the treadmill. I know that I can run the 4 miles but it is the hills that are worrying me. I just have to remember that Hills are Our Friends!!! Teresa is all psyched about the race....She told me today that she is running 4.25 miles on the treadmill at least twice a week. The luxury of not having kids again....where is Ron when I need him!!! So here is what I remember doing from last Saturday.

Saturday - Ran at the Y 2.75 miles with Sherrie and Sherry....Bridget showed up later.
Monday - 3 miles on the treadmill at home - we stuck in lake effect snow again.
Thursday - 3 miles on the treadmill at home - Normal
Friday - 1 mile on the treadmill at home - working on increasing my speed
Saturday - Ran 2.5 miles at the Y with Sherrie and Sherry

Started getting the symptoms again of the sinus infection....So I did not want to push what I did on Saturday. I have started the Dr's regimen gain of Claritin and Musinex. It worked before...It will work again.

Sorry, but I have to go......I just heard a crash and "Oh No". I got to go and investigate. I plan on watching the Super Bowl, but only for the commercials!!!!

Back on Track!!!

Well I can finally say that I'm back on track with the training.....I just have to work in cycling and I should be all set.

Last Wednesday, I was able to run three miles on my treadmill (YAH!!!). That was the most since I got sick. But I was not able to run again for the rest of the week. Living in the boonies does have its good points, but snow is sometimes not one of them.

This weekend we finally got winter!!! On Friday while the rest of Central NY got about 6-7 inches of snow, Palermo got 12-14" by 11:00am. I left work early to take Brian bowling for school. On my way to pick him up they cancelled it. Oh well with 14" on snow already on the ground and more to come, I was not about to try to go back to work. I would have taken at least 1 1/2 hours to get back.....So Brian and I stayed home.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, the cold came in. I don't think it got above 25 degrees this weekend. With all the snow, I don't think that I could also handle the cold. I did find some hills that are back to back that I could practice on.....I just have to wait until the snow at least gets off the road. I don't know when that will be, because we are going to get lake effect again tonight!!!

Since it was still cold on Monday, I ran on the treadmill at the Y. I ran the hills setting at level one for 30 minutes, at 5mph, which got me to 2.5 miles!!! I love the Y, but at this time of year everybody has their resolutions.....So you have to wait for a treadmill and have a 30 minute session. That's ok.....I'll just work harder during those sessions.

I also had swimming, so after running I did my laps in the pool. Right now I'm working on my endurance. Kate has me in flipper and they really keep me going. I know that if I just keep at it I will be able to do more that 4 laps before stopping. I just have to find another day to swim.

So that leaves tonight. I ran only 2.0 miles on my treadmill. But I got up to 5.2mph for one whole mile!!! That is good for me right now. I also notice that my legs don't hurt as much on the treadmill like they use to. This is also my first night of back to back running. So I really did not want to over do it. On Thursday, after Brian's bowling, (yes they are going to try it again), I will try to run 3.25 - 3.5 miles on the treadmill.

Now I just have to find a night where I can cycle. Oh, did anybody see the news? Bob the Thursday cycle instructor at the Y, was Teacher of the Week!!! Good going Bob!!!!

Saturday

Just a report on what is going on with my training.

Saturday, while Andy was in swimming I ran 2.5 miles on the treadmill at the Y!!! 1.5 of the miles was on the hill setting on the treadmill. The other mile was on manual but I got up to 5.2 mph. I figure, if I try to build up slowly that I will get my mileage to where it needs to be. I know that everybody is over 4 miles right now, but my body is still fighting.

Because, I was not careful with the first cold/sinuses infection that I had, now I have infections all over. I went to my regular ob/gyn and he found an infection (I don't want to go into anymore detail on that). Then on Friday, I went to my eye doctor and he said that I still had pot marks on my eyes and we went through my whole history of what happened before I started loosing my sight in the left eye. Well, he said that I have an infection in my eyes, not just the left but the right also. I can see better but I have to treat them both. Ok, the only place that does not have an infection are my feet. And knock on wood for that.

I'm taking this all in stride. I have to wear my glasses for another month. Oh well!! The only thing that I can do is take all my medicine that has been given to me and laugh. I just have to get better!!! Oh by the way.......I'm glad it wasn't an eye lash. Because that would really be typical me if that happened.

Yeah for Me!!

I'm out of the coughing slump!! I ran 2 miles yesterday on the treadmill. I started out slow around 4.5 mph and worked my way up to 5.2 -5.5 mph on the last .25 miles. I know that I'm not up to the mileage that everybody else is, but in my mind now I know that I will be able to get there.

I tried to describe it to one of my co-workers, it is like going through the withdrawal from anything that you have an addiction on. I have been very moody and snappy at work. (Thank God that you guys don't work with me. And to top it all off with the cold, and it being year end....I don't need to that the DT's right now). Running helps me relax (I know that seems funny) and I don't really have to think about anything except how I am running and listen to what is playing in my ear.

I also have the encouragement of my friends who are there for me.....And of course Teresa, my sister. Who calls me out of the blue to say she has made plans to be in Syracuse for the race (she "con" my parents into bring her out) and when do we sign up. "If we sign up Sue, you have to do it!!" I don't think I could have a better sister.

WELL........

Another week without running.

The last time that I ran was New Year's Day....That was only for 15 minutes. But this cold has really gotten to me. So much that I went to the Dr's!!! Me who rarely......Unless it is for a regular physical or something stupid like a eyelash poking my eye out....Goes to the dr's. Who has to be in so much pain, can't see, etc....You get the point. I don't go to the dr's unless I have to. But I was coughing so much and I was in so much pain when I coughed, I had to go!!

So I went to see My good friend Dr. Pinkes and he said "I just saw you for your physical, you must really be sick to come back again". Ok my Dr even knows me!!! He goes through the motions of checking my lungs and sinuses and says...You have an infection!!! So I tell him, "Well, Duh". He laughs. Sends me on my way, with a script for cough syrup with codeine, a box of Musinex, and Cleratine. (Sorry about medicines being misspelled. There is a reason that I work with numbers!!!!!) But he also pulls me out of work for the rest of the day on Thursday and all day Friday!!! He goes to me "you are not going to get better if you keep on going like you do!!! He did asked me when the last time that I ran. I can not lie to Dr. Pinkes and told him Saturday in the rain and Monday on the Treadmill. He told me that he understood, because if he was in my shoes, he would have done the same....But he also told me that I could not run on Saturday with the girls!!! "YOU NEED TO GET BETTER" he stated "Or everything that you have done is for nothing" So I promised him that I would not try to run until Monday.

It is killing me that the weather has been in the 50's and I'm stuck inside!!! GD, this is running weather. I'm going to try to walk on my treadmill for 30 minutes today and Sunday.....He did not say that I could not walk!!! Then I won't be so bad for Monday!!!

I have to get back to training.....I have gained 10 pounds this Holiday Season. TEN POUNDS!!!!!! That is not going to help me with the Hills!!!! Less weight to carry up the hill, less strain!!!

Since I do have the treadmill at the house, I'm going to walk every morning that I'm not running that day. If I don't walk, I'll do an exercise tape.....I have soooo many of them. I just have to do them!!! I have to get back to cycle class and back to swimming!!!! I have lost all the training that I have done before!! But I know that the Girls will help me!!! They will keep me in Line!!!

It's 2007......

And my wish is that I can be able to train for the TRI!!! I want to do well in it.....OK I want to finish it with some kind of dignity. I don't care if I'm last. But now I'm getting scared that I'm not going to do it at all!!!

I know, I know that it is in June.....But I have a sinking feeling that I'm not going to be able to do it. This cold is really bring my training down. I should have been able to run the extra .25 miles on Saturday....But of course I had to hack up a lung as soon as I crossed the bridge.

I do have the treadmill up and I have used it. I walked 30 minutes at 4.0 mph and I ran on it for 15 minutes at 5.0 mph. But of course I had to stop to have a coughing fit. How come it does not happen when I'm at work sitting down!!! Just when I want to run!!!!

Ok I'm done belly aching!

My goals for 2007 are:

1. Really train for the Green Lakes Tri.......And finish the Tri!!!

2. Loose some weight. This does help the first one. If I loose the weight.....There is a lot less of me to carry during the three phases.

3. Be a good roll model for my children. Yes they do take up some of my time, but I also have to make more time with them and show them that exercising is good for them and could bring us together as a family.

4. Remember "Hill are our Friends"!!!!

5. Remember "Work is work......It will always be there. " Do your best at work, but don't let it rule your life.

That is it....Just 5. I think they are good ones.....And hopefully I will be able to stick with them.

Ok I'm copying everybody else and I'm going to put on my running/cycling play list that is on my MP3 player.

Hey!!

I'm getting better at writing in my blog!!!

On Wednesday, I did run with Sherrie. We ran inside on the treadmill. But my cold was acting up. I only ran two miles using the hill category on level 1. Did you know that it gave me an incline of 1.5!!! And I did not realized that I was on the incline running at 5.1 mph!!! No wonder I was huffing and puffing at mile 2. But of course, I got the sinuses drip going and I was trying to run. What was I thinking......Ok I was not thinking, but I know that I have to run!!!

Today, (Saturday) I ran with Bridget, Sherrie, Sherry, Kris and Shannon at the Park. We did 4 miles. Shannon is a great pacer!!!! She was worried that she was slowing me down, but she helped me in so many ways. I was able to finish at least 4 miles. Everybody else ran an extra .25 miles across the bridge. At that time is was coughing up a lung. The whole time that I ran I did not cough. I did push myself the last .5 miles that could have done it, but I don't think so. I also forgot my mp3 player!!!! I realized that I did not have it until I was half way to the park (mile 10 of 20 in the car). So when things got tough, I started singing Polka's. Yes I said Polkas!!!! Growing up Polish, every kid had to learn the Polka and the 1-2-3, 1-2-3 to the beat of the song. So today, instead of going 1-2-3 to help me with the run - I started to sing Polkas. Bridget thinks that I'm weird, but it got me through 4 miles!!!

tomorrow Rob, Ron and my Dad put the treadmill in my computer room. That way we have music and we can watch DVD's while we are running!!! I'm thinking of getting a DVD that you can run to so you are thinking you are running in Hawaii. Ok that might be weird!!!

This weeks progress report

Well, we made it through another week......Including Christmas. I only did two workouts this week with all the festivities that were happening.

Monday - I ran with Trac, Sherrie, Bridget, Shannon and Kris. We did three hills again, but this time we did, what I'm now calling the "Devil" hill, two times in a row. Of course, that was my doing!!! Hey, if we are going to do Tip Hill, we might as well be prepared!! I can't remember the time that we did it in, I'm just trying to remember "HILLS ARE OUR FRIENDS". And I think I did a lot better this time, after reading the articles that Trac sent us, then I did the last time. Also Trac was there every step of the way, giving me encouragement!!!

Ok I was bad.....I skipped the whole rest of the week. Just trying to get ready for Christmas with two small kids is like running right? Trying to get things ready for this party......Trying to get things ready for that party. Just one merry-go-round after another!!!

Saturday - I did it!!! I ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill at the Y!!! I never thought that I would be able to do it by myself on a Saturday. I pushed my self, I think maybe a little to hard, but I did it.

After that I have not been able to run, even after We got the Treadmill for Christmas. Yes, my Mom bought a Treadmill for Andy and me!!!! Andy likes going on it at his Aunt Teresa's house so my Mom bought it. Then she says, "Oh by the way, you can use it to" Thanks mom, it is only in my house!!

I caught the dreaded cold again. But this time, we (Andy and I) are stopping it in its tracks. We are not going to let it get us down!!!

I'm hoping to to run tomorrow with Sherrie and hopefully Trac and the others!! Will write about the run after that!!!

This week......

Well this week has been a very strange week for me, so thank god for running.

On Monday, I ran 3 hills with Trac, Sherry, Sherry, Shannon, Kris and of course Cosmo!!! It was a good run....I would have been a lot better if I did not have my GD glasses on!!! If you read my last blog, you already know that I have something wrong with my cornea. I'm taking steroids for this (only drops for the eyes) and I can not put in my contacts. I hate wearing my glasses when I exercise......And I am blind as a bat if I don't have them. So most of the time I was running I was worried about my glasses. They would fog up.....So I would take them off and then listen to Sherrie's wind pants to make sure that I'm going in the right direction if Trac and Cos was not near me. Then when they were off, I would put them in my pocket. But then I would worry about losing or dropping my glasses. They are my only pair and if they were gone, some one would be driving me to the boonies that night. But Trac was right, Hills are our friends. The articles that were on her blog are totally correct. Tonight I'm going to read them again just to make sure that I'm understanding them right. But on Monday, the hills weren't so bad at all.

Tuesday - The day from H E Double Hockey Sticks!!!!! After the whole "stealing" thing from work, I received a new position of taking care of and "clearing" credit card deposits. What this means, we "clear" what the store says they took in for that day, saying to our Computer Accounting System that we have received the money from the credit card company and there are no discrepancies. I was supposed to take a 1/2 day from work. The kids had dentist appointments around 3:30pm and I thought that maybe I could get some shopping done before hand. NADA. What should have only taken 1/2 hour took almost 2 hours. I had a mistake when the computer transferred from one spread sheet to our computer system. I was still at work at 2:15pm. I still had to pick up Andy and Brian and get them to their dentist appointment for 3:30pm. (It is at least 1/2 Hour to get to the kids school from work). During this whole time, I was interrupted several times!!! They were asking me on things that could have waited until someone came back from lunch. But of course, everyone says "Oh Sue will help" and they know that I can't say NO. I could have found the mistake much sooner, but with the interruptions and then "Why are you still here?" 3,000 times, I lost my place. So after 1 1/2 hours of looking for the mistake, I had to lose everything!!!! Our computer system will not let you finish clearing if you do not balance. So at 2:30, bye bye 2 hours worth of work!!!! And out the door I ran.

Wednesday - Still fuming over Tuesday, I sent an e-mail to my co-workers. If they see me working on credit cards, please leave me alone. I need to make sure that everything is correct. If I make a mistake and say that the store has done something wrong, I have wasted the time of my boss, the time of the Regional Distribution Manager, the time of Regional Manager of Customer Service, the Manager of Customer Service at the store, and later my time with looking into their responses. So if I do everything right the first time, I don't waste other peoples and my time. I also asked, if they see me clearing, please leave me alone. This way I can concentrate and if I have any mistakes, I can find them in a timely fashion. I asked if they had any questions while I was working on credit cards, to ask my boss. If my boss said to ask me, I will answer them. But for right now, please leave me alone when I'm working on these projects. Well some people were taken back from it and though that I was mean. Mean! I tell you mean. Mean is being so inconsiderate knowing that I should not be at work, but then talking to me about how another employee bothers you. Mean is not looking at all the options first and just asking other people for help because it is easier. Mean is asking for help, having someone help you when the directions are in the manual that was given to you, then saying "well so and so said I did not have to do it that way". Well you know what, you should have waited until so and so came back from lunch. My last paycheck had 49.75 hours last week!!! Other than the other person working on cash, NO ONE can say that I'm not working hard and pulling my weight. And if I'm asking to be left alone for part of my job, please understand. Well, some people don't.

Thursday - Still getting the cold shoulder from at least one of my other co-workers. (I'm giving them attitude. Sorry did you work an extra 4 hours this week so far? I don't think so) I went to the Eye Doctor. We my eye is not getting any better. Even though I think I'm seeing a little better in my left eye, according to the Dr, I should have had full sight in that eye with the steroids that he gave me. And I had more holes in my eye and I could lose my sight. How could that be possible? I was on medicine!!! So on that note, the Eye doctor called in a specialist and they got me in at 12:15 the next day. Ok, now I'm scared!! Thank God I was meeting Melissa at the Y to run. We saw Trac first to see if she could run, but she was subbing for Bob's cycle class and some people showed up. So it was just Melissa and I. It was a great run!!! We ran 4 miles in about 52 minutes, with at least 2 hills. Melissa was great!! She had everything planed out in the development and she kept me motivative. Also my glasses never fogged up because it was almost 60 degrees that day.....I could see...I could see with the one good eye. It did get out a lot of my stress.

Friday - I had a "normal" doctor's visit with my regular doctor. He is so proud of me running. In the last year I have lost about 55 pounds. And he says I have a better attitude about my health too. Good thing he does not know about my other attitudes!! So I get to work, and finish what need to be done before Noon for the field and banking purposes. I go to the "Special" Eye Doctor. My regular doctor, who I trust very much, said that he is a very good doctor. The "Special" Dr. does not know what had happen to my eye, but he did find an eye lash that was spinning around in the socket and that could be it. An Eye Lash, you got to be kidding!!! He then said, ok it might not be it, but take this medicine and I will see you in four week, unless your eye sight gets worst. He did said, if the eye lash was the what started it and it kept on doing it I could have gone blind. Oh that makes me a whole lot better. NOT!! He also said that my contact are what probably what saved my eye if that is the cause, because the contacts stopped whatever what making the holes. But, I can't wear my contacts until I see him again. What if it is not the eyelash? I guess I will see him sooner that 4 weeks.

Saturday - I go to the Y like normal, take Andy to swimming and Brian to Prime Time. After swimming, is Mommy Time. I go and run. I wish I could run at the park like everybody else, but Andy loves swimming and right now it is the only thing that he wants to do that is good for him. So I do it!! Running was HE double hockey sticks!!! I only got 2 miles in. It was suppose to be my long slow run!!!! I even ran at 4.9 miles per hour!!! And still only did 2 miles!!! But in defense, I did run 4 miles on Thursday!!!! I know that I can not run the long distances on the treadmill. I need someone I know next to me or to talk to me on the treadmill while I'm running. I might have to do a new strategy on this running. I'm planning on running tomorrow after church. That will be my fourth day. I need to talk to Trac and Melissa about maybe making my long run on Thursday with Melissa and do Hills on Monday with the rest of the group. Then figure out what to do the other days. I want to conquer Tip Hill!!!

I also might have someone else start joining us!!! I saw Kim at the Y on Saturday, after the run of course. She had to take sure time off for health reasons, but she wants to start running with us again. I told her the days that we all run and that I would include her in the e-mails that I send everyone about running. She says she is ready for a new challenge and might do Tip Hill with us. I'm going to send her the map that Trac has so she can see what is going on.

Good thing that I have running.....After this week, I would have to been put in the mental ward!!

One Month.......

That is all that it took to be able to write again. But that does not mean that I have not been training.......A little.

The Jingle Bell Run was great.......Tina called in sick. She is a lost cause, I tried to get her motivated, but she always had things that prevented her to run. I would change my schedule, which is very hard to do with the kids, and then she would cancel......I gave up. If she really wants to run, she will get ahold of me.

I went to the Jingle Bell with the attention, just finish. I set my personal best at 32:20 (I think). Grandma you must have been with me!!! Then things started to get out of control when it came to running.

I was able to run the next day doing the Lights on the Lake with Sherrie, Shannon, and Trac. We did a good job and it was great. After that I went swimming like I always do and that is when things started to go wrong. I lost my contact in my goggles and instead of going into the dressing room to wash it and put it back in......I put it back in. The next day my Left eye hurt....That is the one with the contact in it, but it was nothing to worry about.

Then Brian got sick.....He missed two days of school. Then it was Thanksgiving.......There was no running then until Saturday. I did ok......I ran on the treadmill at the Y because Andy has swimming lessons. (It is the only "sport" that Andy likes and with us living in the "Boonies", Saturday is the only day that I can take him) I ran 3.1 miles with my new shoes. There were no problems. No shin splints. No calves hurting. Now I know that it is the shoes that were giving me the pains. But then that was the last time I was able to run for about 1 week and a half.

I got Brian's cold......It just weared me down. On top of that, we had one of our store robbed that set off a massive clean up on how we run a part of my department....That we found that one of the store's managers were not making the deposits. It was nobody's fault that we did not catch it sooner. Our company has just gotten so big, that the "higher up" did not think that maybe we should change some things around when it comes to some of the jobs. So for a whole week, I would go into work and "work my butt off" then go home and crash, because I really should not have been at work. Even once I was better, I worked all day Saturday, just to make sure that things are up to par and try our new program to make sure that they worked.

I was finally able to run again on December 4th.......I missed running with my friends. It is like a drug now. If I don't run.......I get crabby (that is according to my co-worker). I don't know if it is the running or being with my running friends. I ran with Sherrie, after it snowed in the complex across the street from the Y. We did the outer circle twice.....Once one way, turned around and ran back the other way. The second hill was just awful......It is a long steep, but gradual hill that really start back on the street that we ran on when I took the YRun class. Thank god I did not have to do it again. But because of Andy's Birthday, I was not able to run again until Saturday. During this whole time I have not biked or swimmed.

That was not bad......But I really do like to run outside a lot better. I ran for about 35 minutes on random (level 1). So there were some "hills" and I got up to a speed of 5.6 mph. I know that I could have ran more if I just did not run at such a high mph for me. I then biked for 15 minutes in the fitness room on level 10.

But what is killing me on this is I have to run with my glasses. I can't see without contacts or my glasses. I started to get a dull pain in my left eye on Monday and each day it would just get a little bit worse. My vision was getting a little bit blurry at this time. I was able to see my eye Dr on Friday and I have a lot of little chunks taken out of my cornea. They have put me on a steroid (eye drops) for a week and then they will look at it. So I can't go swimming again on Monday. They think that it might be the chlorine, but with everything else that has been going on ( and the little sleep that I have gotten) I could have put something else in my eye. It seems to be getting better, but my left eye hurts if I try to do to much with it. I'm hoping that it is the medicine working.

But I plan on running on Monday, not swimming. But I will go and see Kate and tell her what is going on and let her know that after this is taken care of I am going to sign up for her class again.

Will try to write again soon!!!!

What a difference!!!

Thank god for Trac, Sherrie and Sherry!!! Thursday's run went a lot better than all the other runs last week.

First thing I did on Thursday was to show up late for Trac's cycle class. Ok that was not better, but at least I showed up!!! My cycle shoes did not twist on me!! They clicked right on the pedals - that was a first. Of course I wanted to take it easy, but Trac kept me motivated to finish the class and work at a regular pace. All except for the Hovers - boy do I hate the hovers!! My legs could not take anymore Hovers!!! Trac always says that the Hovers are good for shaping our buttocks. At that point I did not care what my butt looked like!!!

Then I met Sherrie and Sherry for our run. Usually they run on Wednesday, but this week they ran on Thursday.....That really helped me. I knew that I was not alone on the treadmill - the dreaded treadmill!!!! So they ran 2.5 miles....I ran 2.0 miles. Trac told me too!!!! She is right I should not do too much at one time.

But because Trac and Sherry was talking to me.....I was not looking at the clock, concentrating on my clomping feet, checking on other things that I should not be checking on.....I was able to run with "hardly" no problems!!!! I'm Polish.....I have to complain about something!!! But I felt so good about that run!!!! That made me feel a whole lot better about running the Jingle Bell Run tomorrow.

The weather looks cold for the Jingle Bell, but I am ready. I was able to talk to Melissa and Sherrie about where we are suppose to meet. And I left a message for Tina. I'm going to stand in front of the registration tent and I will try to make myself stand out. HA HA!!!

While talking to Sherrie, we said we are going to take it just like any other Saturday Run that we do. I'm really not that nervous, at least right now. Of course, my Mom and Dad are going to show up and see me race.....They have not missed one yet!!! Teresa is thinking about coming, but she has to work tonight and that would be too hard....But if she comes I would not mind at all. Ron and the Kids are going to be there also. The whole family again, but this time it's for Millie!!!

I wish Melissa, Shannon, Kris and Tina the best.....Enjoy this first run. You will always remember it!!! Remember it's not the time.....That will come. (I have prove that to myself in the Apple Run) But the sheer joy of knowing I FINISHED, I CAN DO IT!!! will help you any task that you set in front of you a little bit easier!!! Right Trac!!!

What is going on this week.

Well, it has been a tough week. I tried to run on Saturday, but I could only do about 1.75 miles. It was a tough 1.75 miles on the treadmill. I know that it is mostly mental, but it seems so damn hard to run on the machine. My shins and legs scream everytime I'm on the treadmill. No matter how high I have my MP3 player on, I can hear my feet go "clomp, clomp, clomp". I feel like one of my grandfather's old horses, but clutzy. I know that I ran the day before and it was 3.1 miles, but I ran it slow that I should not have had such trouble. I was so discourage that I did not go to open cycle. I just wanted to get out of the Y with the boys and finish my grocery shopping. Also it had been a tough 3 days any way and I did not want to push/hurt myself before the Jingle Bell Run.

On Monday, I met with Tina and we ran inside again. I felt like the big old horse again. I ran about 1.75 miles at 5.1 mph on random. I felt like an old women getting off the machine, I was so stiff. Tina did not do much better. But she is so determined to start and finish this race, that I want to back her up. I'm just worried that she is going to get so discourage that her "time" is not good that she will not run again. I think that she would do great if she keeps on going and does not stop running during the winter.

I saw in some magazine that some marathoners are doing running so many minutes/walking so many minutes during a race. I think that if I do this with Tina ( run like 12 minutes, brisk walk for 1 minute) she will not get discourage and would want to finish the race on a strong note!!! I have already proved to myself that I can do it. She needsd to know that she can do it too. Would that be considered cheating, if it keeps somebody running during the winter and running a race in the spring?

I do have some good news about swimming. Kate looked at my "techique" for my front crawl and she said that it looked great. Now I just have be able to swim more that two lengths of the pool before I stop because I'm tired. I also want to practice some other strokes, just in case I need them in the tri.

I run again on Thurday with Sherrie and Sherry. I hope to be out of my slump, I just hope that the reason that I'm having trouble is the treadmill. If it is, what am I going to do come winter? Time will let us know.

What I did this week.

Ok......Just a quick run down of what I did this week.

Saturday I ran 30 Minutes with Trac's class. I ran with Melissa most of the time and we did great. It really did not feel like I ran that long.

On Monday, I ran 2 miles with Bridget and Brandy, while Trac ran 30 minutes with Shannon and her friend (sorry but I think her name is Chris). I don't know what our time was because it was soooo dark and I forgot to start my watch when Tracy said "Go". It was ok.......I don't know why it felt hard and my shins and calfs hurt.......I think it was my mind playing tricks because I could not see because it was so dark. I guess that it is the treadmill for me during the week since I can't run before 5pm. Yuck!!!! The treadmill!!!

I started swimming lessons on Monday!!!! I think that I'm going to like them. Kate is great and it helps that Melissa is in the class and wants to get her strokes ready for a tri!!!! That way I have someone to practice with me.

I did not run again until Friday.......With trying to get ready to go to Schenectady, the wake and the funeral.....I just did not have time to go until then. I ran the same route that I ran the Burnt Hills Apple Run (5K), but I did it in 38.06 minutes. Of course, I was alone and did not have anyone to pace me......And I forgot my MP3 player, so I had nothing but my thought and me trying to sing the songs that I usually run to. Oh joy, oh joy......That was hard to try to keep some kind of normal pace. But of course, my mind was on other thing and I did not stop....So I'll call it an ok run.

Andy has swimming tomorrow, so I will run on the treadmill (Yuck) and then do open cycle class. I really have to change the songs on my MP3 player. They are the same songs I had on there when I was training for Willow Bay 5k.

I will give you my new list once I have them program in. I think I'm going to add more weird 80 tunes and some more Alternative/Heavy Metal. I know that I have enough county and hip hop on there now. I just have to find a good mix to keep me going.
